Volusion

Background

Volusion is an ecommerce company that creates storefronts for businesses that want to sell their products online. They had a variety of prebuilt templates that clients could use for their site, but if they wanted a custom storefront that broke the mold, they’d hire my department to create it.

Responsibilities

I worked as a Front End Developer in Product Services, coding custom designs and premium templates within the Volusion platform. I worked with a large team of designers and developers and contributed to refining workflow processes and creating a better end product.

Process

A designer would hand off a design for a client’s website, we’d have a discussion about proposed funtionality and any specific callouts, then I’d build it within the platform. Volusion had a quick turnaround with projects, and was heavily HTML and CSS based, which meant that I got very knowledgable in those areas. I credit my deep knowledge and enthusiasm for HTML and CSS to this job, as in all my jobs since, I’m able to catch CSS and HTML mistakes and can suggest alternative ways of accomplishing sometimes heavy JS tasks with CSS instead.
